About the Program

REnaissance (REkoNESANS) is a return to a vibrant dialogue between researchers and performers. The collaboration between theorists and practitioners formed the foundation of the early music revival in the 20th century. Today, as historically informed performance has achieved both artistic and market success, we are a fixture at festivals, in philharmonics, and in recording studios. Yet, the worlds of musicology and performance seem to live apart, as if everything had already been said, researched, and tested in the crucible of the concert hall. Is this discussion still necessary? Do we still have anything to say to one another?
REnaissance will take place in the innovative format of an open rehearsal, modeled after the working method of the Arte dei Suonatori ensemble. Together, we will explore the possibilities of applying and hearing theory in practice. Furthermore, we will test whether this approach to reading music alters our perception of works by well-known composers (W. A. Mozart) as well as those performed less frequently or nearly forgotten (L. Mozart, J.B. Kleczyński, F. Tůma). Has the popularity of Mozart's style distorted our perception of the entire Classical style? Do we measure the music of the second half of the 18th century solely by Mozart's yardstick?
We cordially invite you to actively listen to the rehearsals and to take part in the discussion.
