About the Program
How can you tell if a relationship is important to you? The first indicator that comes to mind is the intensity of the feelings experienced within it. This applies to both people we're close to and those we'd rather avoid. However, the former rarely evoke only pleasant feelings. For instance, sadness caused by longing can instantly transform into overwhelming joy. On the other hand, euphoric lovers often grapple with jealousy. There's also the well-known proverb about the short path from love to hate.
Such emotional turmoil is explored in "Ballet des passions," an innovative project by Varsavia Galante. The historical structure of the performance, originating from the 17th century and consisting of a prologue and five acts, serves as the framework for a universal story about the relationship between two people. Each act focuses on one of the emotions between them. The narrative is nonlinear, giving the scenes a dreamlike, reminiscent quality. The affects are depicted both literally, in the dramatic études performed by the dancers, and abstractly, through choreographic means. All of this is immersed in emotionally charged Baroque French music. The timelessness of the presented situations is underscored by the dancers' black, minimalist costumes.
